We’re committed to limiting our effect on the local and global environment.

We’re measuring our emissions and setting a carbon reduction strategy.

We’re reducing waste and promoting reuse and recycling around Three.

We’re working with our people, partners and suppliers to improve our environmental impact.

Pathway to net zero

We’re committed to limiting the effect we have on the environment. So, we’re working with the Carbon Trust to understand our own carbon footprint and aim towards net zero. As part of CK Hutchison Group Telecom Holdings Limited, we’re setting a net zero goal, to be validated during 2021 by the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi).

Green Team

In 2021, we formed our very own sustainability group – the Green Team. It’s an employee forum with champions in each of our business areas and locations. These wonderful Three people help to shape our green initiatives and establish best practices. And they’re passionate about environmental sustainability.

Reducing our footprint

95% renewable energy

Since October 2019 we have embraced renewable energy. In 2020, around 94% of our buildings and network used renewable energy.

Recycling retail waste

In 2020, 98% of waste collected from our retail stores was diverted from landfill for recycling or energy generation. That’s 520 tonnes of waste - the equivalent to 41 double decker buses!

Supply chain plastic

Our supply chain team is on a mission to reduce single use plastics. We’re improving returns packaging, removing plastic wrap on pallets, and changing the way we do things, so we don’t need plastic bags.

Electric vehicle deliveries

In 2020, DPD completed 15% of our customer deliveries by electric vehicles – saving nearly 47,000 kilograms of carbon dioxide.

Waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE)

As a retailer, we recognise unwanted electrical equipment is the UK's fastest growing type of waste. But many electrical items can be repaired or recycled. So, our customers can recycle their old electrical and electronic items when purchasing from us.

Mobile Broadband Network Limited: MBNL

We were the first to share our network infrastructure with another mobile operator, through a 50:50 joint venture - MBNL. This means we can still provide great coverage for our customers throughout the UK, but with a lower impact on the environment. How? By reducing the number of our sites, and the equipment and energy needed to run them.
